In this joyful celebration generations of family and their tender connection to a beautiful red barn, Newbery Medal–winning author Patricia MacLachlan and award-winning artist Kenard Pak spin a tender and timeless story about the simple moments that make up a lifetime.

A century ago, a young boy witnessed his family and community unite to construct a magnificent red barn. This barn became his sanctuary and home - a place to play with friends and farm animals alike.

Over the years, the barn weathered numerous storms. The boy grew up, left, and came back as a young man to tend to the barn once more. A barn that has stood strong for a hundred years, promising to stand for another hundred: a testament to peace, stability, care, and community.

Hundred Years of Gratitude

The Hundred Year Barn, by noted author Patricia MacLachlan,is a beautiful book both visually and textually. Children learn the value of a place through time and how various generations may alter but still value an item. It's going on my shelf next to "Bess the Barn Stands Strong" and "The Year at Maple Hill Farm".
